Visitor’s Center Remodel

For decades the Visitor Center has been a gateway to the wildlife park and the information center for Homosassa. It has informed hundreds of thousands of visitors and served our community well, but it is overdue for a makeover.

We recently completed an exciting concept plan designed to inspire and orient visitors about who we are, what we do, and why we do it. Eye-catching, interactive and immersive exhibits are distributed throughout the 4,500-square-foot space in six themed areas. As visitors move through the building they learn about springs, wildlife and how people play a role in protecting them. Images from the park provide a stunning backdrop while digital tables, displays, and games encourage visitors of all ages and backgrounds to explore. Upon leaving, visitors are prompted to join the collective effort to “Be A Champion” for wildlife and the wild places they inhabit.

Underway since 2018, the project’s conceptual design and development phase was completed through the state of Florida’s “Partnership-in-Parks” program. The next step is to procure funding for architectural preparations estimated to cost $1.2 million. Once the space is prepared, exhibits can be built and installed at an estimated cost of $2.4 million. Funding for this project is anticipated to come from community donations and grants.

We invite and welcome donations of any amount to support the Visitor Center Project. Donations can be received in several forms, but checks made out to “Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park”, or through direct bank transfers, are preferred. Our donor recognition program acknowledges financial support given directly to the Friends group.

The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1991 to support the goals of Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.
