At Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, staff are no strangers to wild challenges—but this one took things to a new level. When a massive tree—over two feet in diameter—toppled into the fast-flowing spring and taking several others with it, the team was faced with a daunting task: remove the tangle of timber from the water with no access to heavy equipment—only what they could carry by hand or swim with. Undeterred, PSS Thea Knott, PSS John Mick, PSS Kate Spratt, Park Ranger Rachael Weaver, and OPS Ranger Jon Gesell sprang into action. Battling strong currents and dense vegetation, the crew relied on teamwork, creative problem-solving, and sheer grit to dismantle and haul away the debris, piece by piece. After hours of hands-on work, the debris was finally cleared. Amazing job, Team!
