Make a Difference in Your Community at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. 

Below are some of the volunteer opportunities available at the park. Join our team!

VISITOR SERVICES

Administrative– Serve as our “Ranger Station,” answering incoming calls, assisting Friends members with enrollment, and taking school group and special interest group reservations.  Climate controlled, work at the main park office. 

Greeter– Welcomes visitors from around the world to the wildlife park.  Climate controlled work inside of the main visitor center, answer questions and provide park information. 

Information Station – Greet visitors at the West Entrance parking area and assist visitors with safely crossing Fishbowl Drive. Provide maps and answer visitors' questions. Outdoor environment.  

Roving and Pop-Up Interpreters - Inspire visitors about the natural and cultural resources at the wildlife park.  Additional training required (interpretation) prior to working with the public.  

Manatee Formal Programs – Daily programs at 11:00 and 1:00 must be an exceptional public speaker and willing to be able to pass interpretive training courses.  Outdoor environment. 

Manatee Watch –Seasonal (November 15th through March 31st) Kayak operation in the blue waters.  Must be physically able to work in inclement weather conditions for manatee observation and educate boaters/ swimmers with voluntary compliance of “manatee manners.”  


TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Tram Driver – Responsible for driving a Chevy 2500 pulling two tram trailers to transport visitors from the Visitor Center to the West Entrance. Five hours shift minimum, once weekly. Must be physically able to get in and out of a vehicle frequently.  

MAINTENANCE SERVICES

Gardening– assist with park landscaping including planting, weeding, and trimming.

Maintenance– Mowing, weed eating, pressure washing, debris removal.

Scuba Diver – Be part of the team that cleans the windows of the underwater observatory.  Must be scuba certified and actively participate in diving.  Must successfully pass a dive physical (paid for by individual) 

WILDLIFE CARE

Diet Preparation – Prepare daily diets for our resident animals and birds. Must not be afraid to get your “hands dirty.” Waiting List

Enrichment – Create and display items that stimulate our animals’ senses.  Crafting, sewing and painting skills required.  Waiting list.

SPECIAL EVENT PARTICIPATION

Celebration of Lights – Many volunteer positions are available for this annual event which occurs around Christmas.  This event has 1000-2000 visitors each night.  Opportunities to serve on committees in advance to assist in the planning process.

Non-park volunteers – occasionally the park has a need for volunteers in addition to those registered as volunteers with the park.  Examples: storm cleanup, yard sale, and special events such as celebration of lights.  These requests will be posted on our website as well as the sign at the main entrance on Hwy 19.
